Landscape Architecture and Planning: Developing Digital Methods in GeoDesign

The 15th International Conference on Information Technology in Landscape Architecture: Digital Landscape Architecture DLA 2014, hosted by Christophe Girot and Adrienne Grêt-Regamey was held in Zurich, Switzerland, 21 May – 23 May, 2014. Continuing with the series on GeoDesign, the conference’s main theme is “Landscape Architecture and Planning: Developing Digital Methods in GeoDesign”. Keynote presentations, lectures and workshops engaging  an international audience take up key thoughts on GeoDesign for developing them further in the discourse with the whole community pointing out needs for further research and improvement. Leading experts from science and practice are invited as keynote speakers and session chairs to highlight the state-of-the-art from different perspectives and to guide focused discussions.

Nine Keynote speakers, around fifty session speakers and respondents from all around the world, among them Carl Steinitz, Erich Buhmann, Hans-Georg Schwarz-v. Raumer, Antje Stokman, Clément Willeminm, Jürgen Döllner, Marc Pollefeys, Adrienne Grêt-Regamey and Christophe Girot as well as a wide audience of over 80 specialists and students of landscape architecture discussed the about the developing of new digital methods on Geodesign and its influence in Landscape Architecture and Planning.

Furthermore, five young professionals / students were selected to present posters about what they consider to be the most pressing issues with regards to research and the design of the contemporary landscape. The audience had the chance to vote through an online voting system and the following posters were selected to receive awards: Gustavo Romanillos for “Madrid Cyclist Track”,  Franklin Gaspar for “Between Hills and Ocean: The Specificity of Urban Landscapes on Slopes” and Christine Baumgartner “Shifting land / forming cultural ground”.
