Open Position: PhD Candidate in landscape architecture !

The Chair of Landscape Architecture of Prof. Christophe Girot at ETH Zürich has an opening for a doctoral position in the area of point cloud based landscape design and simulation. The project will be part of a research group focusing on the impact of designed green structures on the Urban Heat Island Effect, understanding how chosen environmental interactions can affect landscapes at various scales. The research will investigate 3D landscape modeling and visualization along the “green Line“ in Singapore testing a series of physical and microclimatic parameters within a series of landscape simulations. Team work will be part of an iterative process between design and science seeking to satisfy needs for thermal comfort and sustainability in tropical cities.

Work will be done in the frame of the module “Ecosystem Services in Urban Landscapes” at the Future Cities Laboratory (FCL) in Singapore, a joint initiative between the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich) and Singapore’s National Research Foundation.

a doctoral student (100%) in landscape architecture

we are looking for a doctoral candidate in landscape architecture to help us build a point cloud based model aimed at testing and improving urban green areas in and along the Green Line in Singapore.

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated candidate that has already gained prior experience working on the development of point cloud modeling techniques and 3D simulations and visualizations in urban landscapes and vegetation. The research work will be done in close collaboration with planners, landscape ecologists, environmental and water engineers.

The candidate should have a Master’s degree in either architecture, landscape architecture or environmental engineering with a confirmed expertise in landscape design, urban design and 3D point cloud modeling. Some experience in publication and skills in English writing in the subject area will be favored in the evaluation. Furthermore, strong communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills are required. The workplace will be at the Future Cities Laboratory in Singapore, a vibrant and highly innovative research setting.
