We want to open our senses to places we commonly cross in Zurich and have forgotten to listen to and look at carefully. The intention of this course is to operate a new gaze on public space providing new ways of seeing hearing and experiencing the city. Tracking public space with audiovisual media from handsets and video to laser scanners and drones will help grasp a different meaning of a place by depicting spatial, acoustic and atmospheric phenomena. How can the use of multimedia help grasp a different viewpoint on the city?

Video and audio montage as well as point cloud models will be used. We will take public space in Zurich as an experimental field and track the structure of various places and trajectories to question their use and representation. Video, handset notation, sound recording, laser scanning and various image manipulations will help track and experiment with urban places in Zurich. The goal of the course is to question the conventional perception of contemporary urban landscapes.
